DARKROOM & PROCESSING

Building a Home Darkroom

KODAK

One of the Kodak workshop series, this covers all the facets of building a darkroom to a high standard, albeit from the USA point of view - electrics in particular have to be re-thought for the UK.

Darkroom Basics

Roger Hicks & Frances Schultz

Nicely designed full colour book acting as a basic introduction to the darkroom, with some pointers towards further techniques, including toning, giant enlarging and alternative processes including bromoil and salt printing.

Price: £12.99

The New Darkroom Handbook

Joe DeMaio, Robin Worth, Dennis Curtin

Has to be worth the money just for the section showing Eugene Smiths Darkroom...Something of a nostalgia trip as well as a do it yourself manual, as at least half the darkroom products shown have been discontinued by now. Good solid information with plenty of layout diagrams and pictures, requiring a bit of translation from US to UK.

The Film Developing Cookbook

Stephen G. Anchell & Bill Troop

*** out of print ***

A complementary volume to the ‘Darkroom Cookbook’, but concentrating on issues connected with film and its development, particularly TMax films. The layout leaves a bit to be desired, as does the total lack of any images, even line drawings, but the book contains much valuable information, and could be considered an up-to-date replacement for Jacobsons classic ‘Developing’.

Price: £26.99
