ADOX CAMERA FILMS

These films are old school emulsions which are still produced according to the old ADOX formulations which were introduced in the 1950's.

For years these films were sold under the EFKE label, now it gets back it´s original name: ADOX. Using ADOX CHS films takes your technique back to the 1950's and 60's. They have great tonal range, colour separation and modulate differently from modern films. ADOX CHS films have their own feel and look to them.

Especially when pictures are dominated by blue sky the areas in the sky produce a darker grey compared to more modern films, giving the images a different depth and look.

ADOX Films are produced as 35mm, roll films and sheet films. A useful plus feature is that like the 35mm films, ADOX roll films are supplied in reusable light protection-containers.

ADOX CHS 25 ART

Big enlargement free of grain is the main feature with the ADOX CHS 25 film.
The CHS 25 belongs to the class of the so-called Orthopan films, featuring a rapid roll-off in the red region. Red sensitivity is therefore lower than in modern panchromatic films, and this can be exploited in portraiture (darker lips) which would otherwise need the use of of a green filter.

CHS 25 needs carefully controlled exposure and develoment, but the reward is a fantastic tonal range and the finest grain.

ADOX CHS 50 ART

Enlargement free of grain waits for you with the CHS 50 film.
CHS 50 has an extremely fine-grain emulsion with the classical sensitization of low-speed films.

Like CHS 25, CHS 50 belongs to the class of the so-called Orthopan films, featuring a rapid roll-off in the red region. Red sensitivity is therefore lower than in modern panchromatic films, and this can be exploited in portraiture (darker lips) which would otherwise need the use of of a green filter.

ADOX CHS 100 ART

The CHS 100 is the most sensitive ADOX of the series CHS. The latitude compared with the CHS 50 and 25 is even higher, and compared to modern films the range can be considered about a zone wider. The sheet film is particularly suited to development in staining developers such as those based on pyrogallol.
Silver rich using a thick emulsion coating CHS 100 offers high sharpness with exceptionally good tonal differentiation.
Sensitisation falls into the area of the
so-called Rectepan films, that is the response goes quite quite far into the red area, although not so far as modern films offering a tonal range more characteristic of mid 20'th century emulsions.

ADOX CMS 20

Recently introduced by Fotoimpex in Germany, the document film CMS 20 falls into the same group of materials as the now discontinued Kodak Technical Pan. Similarly, it is inherently a high contrast high resolution film, which can be used for ultra-fine grain 35mm work with exceptionally high sharpness when suitably processed to bring the contrast index down.

The normal speed rating is ISO16, which delivers well exposed negatives with excellent tonality and normal density. Adotech developer is the recommended developer from the same distributor, which is hydroquinone-free. The base is totally clear and well suited to scanning if conventional printing is not used.

ADOX ORTHO 25

Orthochromatic film with 25 ISO
Orthochromatic films are extremely sharp and high resolving but blind for anything red.
For pictorial use they can be developed in any soft working developer like Neofin Doku, or LP Docufine or highly diluted film developers such as Rodinal. For high contrast graphic use paper developers can be used, the highest contrast being found with lith developers.

The 35mm film is also suitable for reversal processing to transparencies because of its clear base.

The softer the developer the longer the greyscale reproduced. In normal compensating developers the film works slightly harder and needs to be printed on soft graded paper.
ORTHO Films feature a unique view of the scenery. Usually the sky comes darker and red objects lighter. Interesting images can be achieved in portrait and landscape photography.

The film can capture up to 330 lines/mm in high contrast and up to 250 lines/mm when developed to full greyscales. The spectral response is 380nm through to 610nm
It is coated onto a clear PET base and has an anti halation and anti curling coating on the backside. It is fully archival stable.

Orthochromatic films are superior in sharpness and resolution because the silver halides do not need to be sensitized to red.

In terms of speed and resolution it can be used as a replacement for Kodak Technical Pan, although ADOX CMS 20 may be the best choice in this context as it is orthopanchromatic and will give the closest match in spectral response.

The film can be used for making internegatives or slide dupes from a negative, preferably as a direct contact. If you expose the film under the enlarger use a piece of black cardboard underneath to prevent halation (light spreading from highlights into shadows).

Development can take place under a dark red filter by inspection. This also makes it very suitable for pinhole photography where development by inspection is useful.

Available as 35mm and sheetfilm. The emulsions differ slightly between 35mm and the sheetfilms. Development times are not always 100% identical. Development by inspection is always recommended.

Development starting times ORTHO 25 (35mm film):
Rollei RLC developer: 8-9 Minutes
ADOX APH09 1+40: 4-6 Minutes
ADOX ATM49 Stock solution: 6 Minutes
Rodinal 1+50: 4-6 Minutes
D76 Stock solution: 5-6 Minutes
Xtol Stock solution: 5-6 Minutes

ADOX ORTHO B&W SHEET FILM

Orthochromatic film with normal grade and ultra-high resolution
This film has a normal contrast and can be developed in any film or paper developer.
The speed is quite low but the resolution exceeds 350 lines/mm.
Manufactured primarily for recording electronic microscope images, it has many more uses in conventional photography.
It can be used as an internegative film for alternative printing methods or to make slides from negatives or negatives from slides by contact printing.

There is no development timetable or speed given because film is somewhat like a photopaper and speed and contrast need to be determined under the conditions it is being used in. If the film is used for direct exposure in a camera, test it at around 6-12 ISO initially.

If you expose the film under the enlarger use a black cardboard underneath to prevent halation (light spread from highlight into shadows).

ADOX PRINT FILM 100

A versatile graphic film useful for a variety of purposes, including making internegatives and enlarged negatives for alternative processes, as well as display positives.

The film comprises s
ilver chloride photographic paper emulsion coated on a clear film base, and with normal photo paper processing delivers normal contrast. The film can be developed in any film or paper developer, although the contrast can be controlled by variations in exposure, developing time, and the activity of the developer.

The resolution is not as high as with the ADOX ORTHO 25 or ADOX ORTHO CT films.
Most photographic treatments can be undertaken such as toning, lith development etc.

If you expose the film under the enlarger use a black cardboard underneath to prevent halation!
Please treat the wet emulsion with care. The film is much more sensitive than regular photopaper. If you have problems with scratches use a pre-hardening bath (dilute hardener as given on bottle with tab water and make a first bath before development).

ADOX INFRARED FILM

ADOX IR 820 is sensitised to 820nm in the infrared region.
Without filtering the film can be exposed at 100 ASA, but to achieve the desired infrared effect must be exposed with dark red or visually opaque filters (eg type 87).

With filtration the effective speed is around 3-12 ISO. Bracketing exposures is recommended,
The specification is in line with the original discontinued IR MACO 820.

The film can be processed in standard developers.Total dark must be used throughout processing. There are no problems passing the film through standard 'cabin luggage' X- ray inspection machines.
