Speedi-41 is a new concept in colour negative processing. The minimum detection level built into the film by its maker is not changed by much, but Speedi-41 does improve the colour densities generated by a considerable amount. This improves the printability and appears to give a speed increase. The effect is like intensification with black and white films, and is called amplification to distinguish it. Unlike other processes, the Speedi-41 Kit gives you great flexibility in choosing film speed AFTER the exposure and it is straightforward to use once its simple, if unconventional approach has been tried. Only the first development needs an accurate time and temperature control, all subsequent stages can be carried out in full room lighting at room temperatures, and monitored as you go. Because the film is not being treated in the way the manufacturer intended, perfect colour rendition cannot be expected, although the results are a good approximation. If you need the genuine C-41 colours the Speedibrews Celer-41 Kit, based on official C-41 procedures is available, working at the much higher 38°C. Speedi-41 is particularly good at dealing with low intensity reciprocity failure, which means long exposures can be shortened, and is equal to a speed increase. The kit can also be used with any reversal film to produce a high speed negative film without the orange mask. The steps are; First Development, Stop, Fix, Wash, Bleach, Wash, Colour Development, Wash, Bleach, Wash, Fix, Wash and Dry. All parts of the kit are supplied as powders.
