ANTI-FOG AGENT

BENZOTRIAZOLE

We only stock one anti-foggant, the chemical benzotriazole, which is used as a very dilute solution, usually added to developer to minimise base fog, which might be found with aging paper. It is usually found that image colour is shifted towards colder, and benzotriazole can be used as an alternative to cold working developers, or light blue toning. It can also be used as an additive to liquid emulsion to reduce visible fog.

The normal formula is:
Benzotriazole 2g
Hot water at 60 degrees C.
The benzotriazole does not dissolve very easily, hence the very hot water. Stir thoroughly until dissolved.

This now comprises a stock solution and can be used as an additive into a print developer, at a starting point of about 20 ml to a litre of working strength developer. Test this dilution initially, and add more if required.
