Even
if you never make another print in any other process it is worth trying
to make a salt print. From an historical point of view you will be able
to share the pleasure and excitement that Fox Talbot experienced at the
dawn of a technology, and that has since in some way touched the life
of virtually everyone on the planet. You will be able to recreate very
closely the conditions in which Fox Talbot invented photographic printing.
With a little household salt, some silver nitrate, a few sheets of drawing
paper, some fixer, and a small dose of sunlight you will be able to make
a print just as Fox Talbot did.
