Solvent
transfer is a very useful mixed media technique, a sort of instant photocopy
without the use of a photocopying machine, and has been used successfully
in America by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg. It is a quick and easy
means of transferring an image from a printed page such as a newspaper
or magazine onto paper or fabric. Illustrations from magazines can be
overlaid onto prints made in other media, as varied as cyanotypes and
etchings.
