FOMA PAPERS

The Hungarian manufacturer Forte has now ceased production, and at the time of writing (15/3/07) the last stocks are being sold. We recommend as the closest substitute range of traditional materials that of FOMA, manufacturing in the Czech Republic.
This is a downloadable PDF which gives Foma equivalent products to those from the Forte range.

FOMA FOMATONE FB

A variable contrast paper with a chloro-bromide emulsion system. Fomatone produces extremely warm tones, and may be unique in that it has not yet been reworked to remove trace elements which are beneficial to chloro-bromide characteristics, including good shadow separation, deep blacks, and reactivity to ‘lith’ development. Tim Rudman, the foremost expert on lith techniques rates this paper as the front runner for lith work. The paper has a warm-white base which complements the image colour. Grade range attainable can extend from about G1 to G4. Fomatone can be developed to give a very warm colour using a warm developer such asIlford Warmtone, Kodak D163 or Agfa Neutol WA, especially if it is substantially over-exposed and the development curtailed. Overdevelopment can be used to give a cooler image, and to increase the contrast. Available in semi-matt and gloss surfaces.
